I do a fair amount of promoting independent, honest news like the Narco News Bulletin - http://narconews.com/ - and the NewStandard - http://newstandardnews.net/ ) and helping build community in my locality (Amazing Things Arts Center, Framingham, Mass.)

I'm finally getting to the point where I'm also putting serious effort into my own project for making the world a better place: People Who Give a Damn - http://pwgd.org/ - (PWGD). The goal of PWGD will be to enable people to forward messages to one another in a way that doesn't clutter people's inboxes, but rather adds their endorsement of the importance of the idea; to send messages considered greatly important, by a straight majority or a sample jury, to everyone in the (the relevant sections of the) network; and to aid in coming to collective decisions within groups or involving everyone.

PWGD would strive serve this central role by being completely open, transparent, and never overriding the principle of either user choice or democracy (no “we get to send this message to everyone because we control the network,” which is the basic model most communication systems operate by). I'm very interested in people's reactions to this idea, especially if the reaction is “how can I help?” (-;
